When is it time to quit?

Ever feel like quitting? You are likely familiar with these sayings:

  • Know when to say when

  • It’s time to move on

  • Quit while you’re ahead

  • Cut your losses

But are there any circumstances in life in which quitting should not be an option? Consider this quote from a Navy SEAL.

“I will never quit. I persevere and thrive on adversity. My Nation expects me to be physically harder and mentally stronger than my enemies. If knocked down, I will get back up, every time. I will draw on every remaining ounce of strength to protect my teammates and to accomplish our mission. I am never out of the fight.”

I cannot help but feel anxious about tomorrow’s election. But regardless of the outcome, it is also sobering to think about our future and the fight we face to maintain our freedoms. What was founded as a Christian nation is in the process of erosion, the final result yet to be determined, and I’m also anxious for our children and grandchildren.

A timely message yesterday at church (thanks Shaun) reminded me to drop the anxiety and trust God. Easier said than done, but also quite encouraging and exactly what I need to hear. Based out of 1 Peter 5: 5-11, the takeaways were outstanding —

  • When anxiety hits, pray

  • Control what you can, give God the rest

  • Remember that you are loved

Now back to quitting. QUIT BEING ANXIOUS! But also, who or what would you NEVER quit on?

Family, friends, church, dreams, goals, perhaps our work. What else?

Don’t quit on God. No matter what tragedies you face, no matter what challenges come your way, no matter how bad you mess up, don’t stop believing. Think about King David who saw a beautiful women, took her, then had her husband killed. Sounds like a very bad person, perhaps even a terrorist. But God didn’t quit on David and thankfully David didn’t quit on God because he’s described as “a man after God’s own heart.” We also have David to thank because he wrote many of the Psalms, which are an extraordinary source of encouragement and inspiration.

If you’ve not done so already, be a responsible American and vote tomorrow, then let it go and trust God. We’ve got plenty to do without worrying about what “might” happen. There are people who need our encouragement to know we’ll never quit on them. Tell them.

From the same Navy SEAL:

“In times of uncertainty there is a special breed of warrior ready to answer our Nation’s call; a common man with uncommon desire to succeed. Forged by adversity, he stands alongside America’s finest special operations forces to serve his country and the American people, and to protect their way of life. I am that man.”

These are times of uncertainty, but we also have the opportunity to become stronger due to adversity and to BE THERE and never quit on those we love.

Be that man and that woman. Quitting is not an option. Make it happen.
